Here are the top stories today in Long Beach:

  1. Someone shot a man and a woman to death on Saturday at 953 Park Circle near Drake Park. The couple was standing on the sidewalk after having returned from a fishing trip. The PD initially received calls a little before eight in the evening about a fight that an eyewitness saw happening at a party outside the Bembridge House.   2. A 16-year-old boy died in a traffic accident on Saturday around nine in the evening while crossing the street in a marked crosswalk. It happened at the intersection of Los Coyotes Diagonal and Deborah Street. The 33-year-old male driver was arrested for one count of gross vehicular manslaughter and one count of driving under the influence.   3. Lakewood High School went into a brief lockdown on Friday, when two teenagers carrying guns were arrested outside. One teen pointed a gun at a campus safety officer. The PD doesn’t know why the teens were there in the first place, since they are neither affiliated with Lakewood HS nor the LBUSD. (LB Post)
  4. Long Beach has its first human case of West Nile virus (WNV). As you may remember, all it takes is the bite of an infected Culex mosquito to result in possible brain inflammation or paralysis (1 in 150). (City of LB)
  5. The Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) presents the first solo museum exhibit of Gabriella Sanchez, titled "Partial Pictures." Sanchez is one of the most exciting and relevant Latina artists in the contemporary Los Angeles art scene. (San Diego Magazine)
