  1. The South Coast Interfaith Council has scheduled a fundraising walk in Long Beach. Called the CROP Hunger Walk, participants meet on October 24 at 5950 East Willow Street. Of the proceeds, 25% benefit “Catholic Charities, Urban Community Outreach, Lutheran Social Services, Su Casa Family Crisis and Support Center and Christian Outreach in Action,” which address hunger locally. The other 75% goes to “CROP/Church World Service for International Hunger Relief and Programs.” (World Nation News)
  2. If your dog is like mine, they didn’t care for the thunder and lightning. If you’re like me, you welcomed the associated rain after months of dry weather. However, the lightning caused problems on the 5200 block of Spring Street, where lightning struck a tree, which promptly went up in flames. Twenty members of the FD contained the fire, which nevertheless reached the exterior of a house. (LB Post)

Why does the family of the Millikan shooting victim have to hold a press conference “to call on Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón to file charges of murder" against the school resource officer who shot her? The boyfriend pleads, "I want him in jail for what he did to my girlfriend." As of right now, the school safety officer is on leave. (Fox 11)
  4. Gang detectives are investigating a shooting that took place in the 2000 block of Poppy Street. An argument escalated into gunfire. A woman was struck by a bullet while being inside her residence. (LBReport)
  5. The Aquarium of the Pacific invites you to join its live stream of “Robots and the Sea” with Dr. Gaurav Sukhatme. Visuals include “robots with artificial intelligence and humanoid robots from the Robotics Society of Southern California and Barboza Space Center.” The topic of the discussion focuses on using AI in underwater exploration.
