  1. There was a fatal shooting “at the Crow’s Nest bar” on the 1900 block of West Willow Street Sunday night. The victim was an employee “involved in a verbal dispute with a customer, a male adult suspect.” The suspect fled on foot. If you have any information, please contact Homicide Detectives Don Collier or Leticia Gamboa at (562) 570-7244. (My News LA, LBPD)
  2. The Alamitos Bay Marina parking lots might switch to a pay-to-park business model in the future. Boat owners claim it would “hurt their ability to use the marina and potentially injure adjacent yacht clubs.” Nearby parking at the 2nd and PCH structure offers “free parking for the first 90 minutes without validation but charges $2 every 20 minutes after that, with a daily maximum of $30.” Officials intend to discuss the issue further on Thursday. (LB Post)
  3. On Sunday, the LBFD assisted the Coast Guard and other agencies in a search for a missing diver off the oil platform Elly. It is located near Huntington Beach. After using sonar, the rescue mission became a recovery effort. (Long Beach Fire)
  4. Mayor Robert Garcia spent Sunday with a group of freshly minted Eagle Scouts. They are from LB and Lakewood. The Mayor offers a “huge congrats to them and their families!” (@LongBeachMayor)
  5. Indira Jimenez is a special education teacher at Long Beach Poly High School. She and her students were determined to raise funds for a mural called “The Tree of Life.” Local artist Enrique Brito intends to fulfill her vision for the 54-by-14-foot space. So far, Jimenez has raised about $1,000 of the $6,825 she needs. She accepts donations from the Poly community and anyone else who would like to contribute. (LB News)

Doing a "Dry January" or just looking for a flavorful alternative to regular cocktails? Here's a suggestion: try a non-alcoholic drink from our partners at Betera. Created by an award-winning chef from natural botanicals, Betera’s drinks come in 3 flavors — Ginger-Orange, Elderflower-Lime and Rhubarb-Hibiscus. We tried Ginger-Orange, and it was excellent — lightly effervescent, floral with a hint of bitterness and the sippability of a cocktail.

Betera is offering readers of the Daily a 15% discount on their first order: use PATCH15 at checkout. Highly recommended — you can try Betera here.
