CSULB Signs Updated Scholarship Program Agreement With Coast Guard
The College Student Pre-Commissioning Initiative offers scholarships to students who want to join the U.S. Coast Guard.

LONG BEACH, CA — The U.S. Coast Guard and California State University Long Beach signed an updated agreement to continue the College Student Pre-Commissioning Initiative (CSPI) scholarship program at the university.
The program is designed for students who demonstrate high academic and leadership excellence and want to serve as part of the Coast Guard.
“The scholarship recipients will represent the future of the Coast Guard, and investing in their education and career development will help with their success,” said Rear Adm. Andrew Sugimoto, Coast Guard Pacific Area deputy commander. “My personal ties to this institution –
my father taught here, my wife is an alumni and the university president’s brother was my physics instructor at the Coast Guard Academy – demonstrates the value of nurturing the next generation.”

Students who are enrolled, accepted for enrollment or pending enrollment in a bachelor's degree program are able to apply for the scholarship. Applicants must have no more than two years until graduation or program application date.
