- Police officers responded to 101 Pine Avenue, where they found a woman experiencing homelessness dead outside L’Opera. Officers believe she died from an overdose on the sidewalk. Two men were taken to local hospitals. (LB Post)
- The LBFD spent Tuesday morning dealing with the aftermath of a car accident that led to a sheared off fire hydrant near Wardlow Road and Bellflower Boulevard. The driver declined transport to the hospital. (@lbfirefighters)
- The City welcomes the court’s decision to uphold the county’s cost and methodology for recounting the City’s Measure A ballot initiative. It means “a historic investment in Infrastructure and public safety in the City of Long Beach.” However, critics suggest that the permanent extension of a temporary 2016 sales tax increase passed by only 16 votes, which should merit a recount. The Reform Coalition, which brought the challenge, says the “new electronic vote tabulation system” increases recount costs beyond feasibility. (City of LB, LBReport)
- The LBPD K-9 unit has been using the nice weather to do some water acclamation training. The pup did well and looked like it was a good time. (@LongBeachPD.CA)
- Mexihanas Hibachi Grill is the latest success story in LB. Serving Japanese food with a Mexican twist, Martin Luzanilla started with selling his dishes via social media. Response was swift and positive. After a little more than a month, he rented a restaurant. Now he owns a restaurant at 1782 Martin Luther King Jr Avenue and plans to open a second location at 2222 Palo Verde. (ABC 7)
