  1. On Sunday, the LBPD found a dead body near the 1300 block of West 16th Street. They secured the scene by closing 16th Street between Fashion and Gale. At this time, the PD is not releasing details other than that they are “investigating this incident as an apparent homicide.” (LB Post)
  2. If you’re traveling for the holidays, check your Southland airport for flight details. Pandemic-related flight cancellations are making it challenging for airline passengers to get home. For example, there were 87 canceled flights on Sunday at LAX first thing in the morning. The LB Airport has already seen six cancellations and, as COVID-caused staffing shortages continue, there are likely to be more. (KFI)
  3. Sunday was the day for the “world's oldest Kwanzaa procession” that goes down Crenshaw Boulevard to Leimert Park. If you missed this opportunity to participate in the kickoff to Kwanzaa, you have a second option of doing it virtually. The City of Pasadena will hold its 33rd annual celebration on Zoom Tuesday. All are welcome. (Spectrum News 1)
  4. The freshly rebranded Crypto.com Arena, formerly known as the Staples Center, was the backdrop for the Saturday Lakers game against the Brooklyn Nets. And while the Lakers were able to come back from a 23-point deficit, it wasn’t enough, and they lost 122 to 115. This was the fifth loss in a row, which is something the team cannot think about too much since the next game is Tuesday in Houston against the Rockets. (NBA)
  5. Have you been to the El Barrio Cantina? Located at 1731 East 4th Street, it serves Veggie Viche, Churro Donuts, Pork Belly Breakfast Burritos, and a Bloody Maria. After celebrating its grand opening on November 12, the Cantina has been able to make a name for itself in the live entertainment scene. For example, the DJ Collective known as Secret Service LBC will be on hand Friday for New Year’s Eve. (@elbarrio_cantina)
