🤔 Aggressive Urban Coyotes or Regular L.A. County Wildlife? Poll!
We live with raccoons and opossums. Do coyotes fall into the same category? They don’t need open space, have no problems building dens close to humans, and are becoming more and more visible on our neighborhood streets. What do you think? So far, 59.1% think we need to learn to live with them, 38.6% want them gone, and 2.3% don’t care one way or the other.
📰 Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:
1) El Segundo-based R6 Distillery intends to build a distilling facility at 601 Golden Avenue. However, the distillery would be right across the street from Edison Elementary School. At Tuesday’s press conference, community members objected, “saying they are worried about alcohol sales in a community that’s already been burdened by too many liquor stores and the pollution that the distillery could bring.” (Long Beach Post)
2) We learned on Thursday that the Anna W. Ngai Alumni Center at CSULB is now open! The ceremonial ribbon cutting opened the 7,000-square-foot Alumni Center, “which now serves as a welcoming campus portal aimed to inspire, facilitate and sustain alumni interaction by providing event space for the campus and wider community.” (LB Local News)
3) The Long Beach Cafe at 615 East Ocean Boulevard didn’t survive the pandemic. The property has been fenced off. However, there was Wednesday scuttlebutt that Burnham Development “has proposed a 21-story project consisting of 203 residential units” for the site. If approved, it would place the venue in between the Current and Artaban. (LB Business Journal)
4) Mark your calendars! The Long Beach Press-Telegram’s Scary Story Contest has opened to children from local elementary, middle, and high schools. Youngsters have until October 10 at 5 p.m. to submit “the most nightmarish narratives and disturbing drawings.” Bragging rights, publication in the October 30 paper, and $20 In-N-Out gift cards are on the table. (LB Schools)
5) Mark your calendars some more! On Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., there will be a neighborhood block party at Lincoln Elementary. Located at 1175 East 11th Street, the event offers family fun and doubles as a resource fair with COVID vaccinations and plenty of games. (AOC7)
