The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Long Beach.

Morning, people of Long Beach! It's me again, Sylvia, your host of the Long Beach Daily.
A CEO alleged to have been behaving badly is out. Also, a bar owner who was caught on tape actually behaving badly is sorry. Finally, it’s a bad sign when the redistricting commission tells the community to heal after redrawing its map.
Today’s Gas Buddy update features NOIL at 1234 West Cowles Street where gas is $4.14 a gallon.

Here are the top stories today in Long Beach:
- Update on the Downtown Long Beach Alliance and its president and CEO: Recently, we talked about the Alliance’s CEO who was accused of ‘workplace bullying of female employees.” On Wednesday, the Alliance announced that it and the CEO “mutually agreed to part ways.” And, because the allegations involve a personnel matter, nobody has any further comments. (LB Post)
- Under the heading of 'grown men behaving badly', there was an ugly incident last Sunday involving the owner of LB’s R Bar and the folks at Beachwood Brewing downtown. The bar owner says he was denied service at the brewery because he refused to wear a mask, which is mandatory. The bar owner “hurled insults and threatened staff by hurling homophobic slurs while touting his status in the Long Beach community.” After community fallout, the bar owner now says, “I said things that never should have come out of my mouth or anybody else’s. I blew up. I apologize.” (LA Eater)
- The new city council districts were unanimously approved on Thursday. Already, lawsuits have been threatened. The highlights of these changes include drawing council incumbents Cindy Allen and Stacy Mungo Flanigan out of their own districts and an allegation of diluting Latinos’ voting power. Part of the problem is that Allen is now in district one, which pits her against Mary Zendejas. Besides that, the map changes were able to “unite the city’s Cambodian population and preserve its historic Black core in Central Long Beach.” “It’s time for us to heal as a city, move forward, and work across district lines,” said the redistricting commissioner. (LB Post)
- As of Thursday, the Vons at 600 East Broadway is for sale with an asking price of $43.3 million. The current owner, Fort Ashford Funds, bought the property for $29 million in 2019. The existing tenants pay rent of $1.5 million a year, with steady increases of 7.5% planned every five years. Foreign buyers are reportedly interested in the property. (The Real Deal)
- L.A. County Deputy Public Defender George Moyer announced Friday that he wants LB City Prosecutor Doug Haubert’s job in 2022. Moyer criticizes the city’s “jail-first approach to criminal justice that prioritizes punishment over community safety and health.” His platform includes diversion programs for veterans, an end to prosecution for drug possession (for personal use), standing up against predatory landlords, selecting more carefully the cases to prosecute, and ending cash bail.
