Here are the top stories today in Long Beach:

  1. The President and CEO of the Downtown Long Beach Alliance is alleged to have mistreated employees. In August, a former employee alerted two City Council members to “workplace bullying and a toxic work environment, largely inflicted upon women workers.” Right now, everyone in the know is tossing the information back and forth like a game of hot potato. “The City is confident that the DLBA Board of Directors is taking the investigation very seriously,” a statement said. (LB Post)
  2. It’s official! The Conductor Larry Curtis Concert Park will be dedicated on the 30th. It honors Larry Curtis, who was the conductor for the Long Beach Municipal Band. The dedication will turn the part of Marine Stadium that is located at 5255 Paoli Way into the park. Festivities take place at 11 a.m. and there will be a Dixieland-style performance by some members of the band. (City of LB)
  3. The LBUSD reports an update to its facilities master plan. It involves mapping the “District's physical infrastructure needs over the long term.” Begun in 2008, some aspects of the plan have already been completed. Examples include new construction of three schools, “wireless data capabilities at every campus, and heating and cooling system upgrades.” Right now, there is a facility-by-facility “assessment of current building conditions” that involved staff members and an architectural firm. Going forward, there will be advisory committee input and community forums starting in the winter. (LB School Bonds)
  4. There was an armed robbery in the Alamitos Beach area. Right around 700 East Shoreline Drive, near the public restrooms, two males stopped a female. Pulling a gun, they robbed her and were long gone by the time the PD arrived. (LBReport)
  5. An 84-year-old man was fatally struck by an Acura ILX. The accident happened at the intersection of Lindero Avenue and East Ocean Boulevard. The driver remained on the scene, and the PD does not believe that “speed, distraction nor impaired driving” were to blame. If you were a witness, please call LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Detectives Joseph Johnson or Shawn Loughlin at 562-570-7355. (CBS)
