Dog Adopted After Being In Long Beach Shelter For More Than A Year: Report

The dog was in the shelter for 400 days, the second-longest stay of any canine there, according to a report by NBC Los Angeles.

LONG BEACH, CA — A dog who was in a Long Beach shelter for 400 days has finally been adopted, according to a report from NBC Los Angeles.

The dog, whose name is Meadow, was adopted following a trial run with a family.

“I think she never got to be a puppy,” Meadow's new owner told NBC Los Angeles.“This is her living her puppy dream right now."

It's unclear when Meadow arrived at the shelter. But according to the report, her stay was the second-longest ever at the shelter.

The Long Beach Animal Care Services, in partnership with NBC Universal, is currently trying to clear its shelter by reducing adoption fees for dogs over 25 pounds and kittens. Adoption fees for the former are $25 through the end of August, while the latter have been set at $9.

There is also a "2-fur-1" special for kittens, according to shelter officials.
