Off-Duty Border Patrol Officer Drunkenly Attacked Long Beach Cop: Prosecutors
Prosecutors called the agent's actions "unacceptable and deeply troubling."
LONG BEACH, CA — An off-duty Border Patrol agent was armed when he injured a cop in a drunken attack outside a restaurant in Long Beach Monday, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors say Isaiah Anthony Hodgson, 29, was intoxicated and armed with a handgun at a restaurant in the city's Shoreline Village area, near Downtown, when he entered a women's restroom.
A person there alerted the restaurant manager that Hodgson was armed and going into the women's restroom, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said in a statement Friday announcing charges against the 29-year-old.

Hodgson left the restaurant and was approached in the parking lot by a security guard, who saw him holding a gun on his waistband and a firearm magazine, authorities said.
The guard warned him that guns were not allowed on the property and asked him to leave, according to prosecutors. But before he could leave, officers with the Long Beach Police Department had already responded to the scene to a call about a person with a gun.

Once there, according to prosecutors, the officers saw that the 29-year-old was intoxicated and refused to listen to police commands.
He resisted arrest, becoming agitated and physical in the process, according to prosecutors, who said Hodgson injured one of the officers.
“The conduct exhibited by Mr. Hodgson, a border patrol agent who has the duty to uphold the law and protect its citizens, is unacceptable and deeply troubling,” said Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said in a statement Friday afternoon “No one is above the law, regardless of their position or badge. Law enforcement officers have a responsibility to always conduct themselves with integrity and professionalism."
Hodgson has been charged with three felony counts of resisting an executive officer; one felony count of battery with injury on a peace officer; one misdemeanor count of exhibiting a concealable firearm in public; one misdemeanor count of having a concealed firearm on person; and one misdemeanor count of carrying a loaded firearm on one’s person.
He was arraigned Friday and released under the condition that he take at least three alcohol counseling meetings a week, prosecutors said. He was also ordered not to leave the state or possess any firearms.
The 29-year-old CBP agent faces a maximum of seven years in state prison if convicted of the crimes. CBP did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Patch.
