Here are the top stories today in Long Beach:

  1. Shoutout to the PD East Division! On Thursday, there was a report of a victim being assaulted by a group of people. Officers found the suspects as they were being detained by CSULB Police. In the process, the PD found two suspects with firearms. (@LBPD)
  2. 2022 District 1 City Council candidate Lee Charley had a shooting happen pretty close to home. Happening on Friday evening, the shooting took place at 7th Street and Chestnut Avenue, which is a stone’s throw away from the new Civic Center. District 1 has the dubious distinction of having the “highest total number of shootings” since January 2021 in LB. (LBReport)
  3. The Crooked Duck can’t find enough employees. Operating with roughly half the staff that was there pre-pandemic, the business now changed its model. A Saturday report notes that The Crooked Duck no longer serves dinner, making it a local breakfast and lunch spot. (Spectrum News 1)
  4. Mayor Robert Garcia was on hand Thursday for a meet-and-greet with children being vaccinated for COVID-19 and parents, who “were very grateful.” He notes that clinics are now open for those aged five and above. “Let’s end this pandemic,” he said. (@LongBeachMayor)
  5. Saturday was the opening day of ComplexCon. It is a “curated festival” that “spotlights fandom, figures and trends representing drop-driven shopping for kicks, toys, clothing and food.” It goes until Sunday at the Convention Center. (LA Weekly)
