Elderly Woman Killed In 2-Vehicle Crash In Long Beach: LBPD

Police say the crash happened Sunday afternoon in the area of Studebaker Road and Los Santos Drive.

LONG BEACH, CA β€” An elderly woman died Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in East Long Beach, according to police.

Police say the 86-year-old woman was driving a 2015 Toyota Corolla westbound on Los Santos Drive, heading towards Studebaker Road around 2 p.m.

At some point, she came to a stop past the designated lanes of a stop sign, leaving her car exposed in the lanes of Studebaker Road, according to the Long Beach Police Department. That's when the driver of a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado traveling northbound on Studebaker Road struck the woman's car, the LBPD said.

The driver of the Chevrolet Colorado, a 45-year-old Long Beach resident, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said. She was then taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries that happened during the crash, police said.

It's unclear why the 86-year-old didn't make a complete stop before the designated stop sign line. It appears, however, that speed, distracted driving and impaired driving were not factors in the crash.
