Electric Scooter Rider Dies Days After Crash In Long Beach

The man on the electric scooter died four days after being struck by a car in the 6500 block of Atlantic Avenue on April 29, police said.

LONG BEACH, CA — A man has died from injuries he suffered when he was struck by a car while riding an electric scooter in North Long Beach last month, police said Friday.

The man was riding the electric scooter through a marked crosswalk in the area of Atlantic Avenue and Artesia Boulevard the morning of April 29, when the 19-year-old driving a Honda Accord ran a red light and struck him, police said.

The scooter rider was hospitalized in critical condition the day of the crash and died on May 3 from his injuries, according to the Long Beach Police Department. Detectives were notified of the man's death on Wednesday.

His identity was not immediately revealed as the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office works to notify his family of his death.

The driver of the Honda Accord remained at the scene the day of the crash and cooperated with the investigation, police said.

Speed is currently being investigated as an additional factor in the crash, police said.
