Happy Monday, people of Long Beach! Let's get you all caught up on what's happening locally to start today off on an informed note.

With catalytic converter theft being the hot topic on Nextdoor, the LBPD has begun hosting Etch & Catch events. Also, there was another shooting in the Downtown Entertainment District. Finally, the fire department had a busy time with a house fire, RV fire, and structure damage. Oh, my!

Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:

  1. The LBPD will host another Etch & Catch event this coming Saturday. Motorists can etch their cars’ VINs into the metal of catalytic converters. The goal is to cut down on the catalytic converter theft in the city. (@LBPD)
  2. There was a (possibly gang-related) shooting Saturday night on the 200 block of North Pine Avenue (the Downtown Entertainment District). There were two victims, one of whom died.   3. On Saturday, the LBFD responded to a fire at the corner of Locust Avenue and 14th Street. It took 40 firefighters to extinguish the house fire that then spread to a parked RV next to the property. (LB Post)
  4. Later that same day, Engine 13 traveled to 1601 Caspian, where a vehicle made contact with a business. They placed a couple of posts to shore up the building and prevent collapse. (@lbfirefighters)
  5. L.A. County coronavirus cases are skyrocketing when compared to the rest of the state. The county saw 3,058 reported infections on Friday alone, which was the third day in a row with reports in excess of 2,500 cases. In Long Beach, there are currently 22 COVID hospitalizations.
