The LBPD has graduated its first Explorer Academy Class. Also, you can become a part of history by submitting your pandemic story to the Historical Society. Finally, LBUSD parents can choose in-person or independent study; hybrid learning is off the table.

Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:
- Shout-out to the LBPD’s Explorer Academy Class #1! They spent a week training and testing in a setting similar to a police academy. LB worked together with the PDs from Garden Grove and Huntington Beach. (Long Beach Police Department)
- The Historical Society of LB is putting together a Pandemic Project. Residents can submit their COVID-19 or pandemic stories. (LB Business Journal, HSLB)
- LBUSD parents may choose in-person school for their kids or independent study. There will be no hybrid program, Superintendent Jill Baker stated. Information about the independent study program is not yet available. (LBReport)
- Mayor Garcia says the fight to stop the pandemic “is becoming more difficult by the day,” but shies away from talking lockdowns. He does say there is “the possibility of additional restrictions.” (LB Post)
- The June 2022 City elections prove to be interesting and financially lucrative. Council member Mary Zendejas (1) has raised about $40,000. Suzie Price (3) collected $79,000 and appears to run unopposed. Stacy Mungo Flanigan (5) has not said if she will run again, but former Council Member Gerrie Schipske has said she wants her seat back. Roberto Uranga (7) faces numerous competitors but collected little money. Rex Richardson (9) has his eye on Mayor Garcia’s job were he to vacate it; if not, he will run unopposed with his almost $170,000 campaign contribution war chest. (LB Post)
