Famous Comedian Presented Key To Long Beach

LONG BEACH, CA — Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson announced the 2024 recipients of the Keys to the City on Tuesday.

Famous comedian Gabriel "Fluffy" Iglesias, Long Beach legend Samuel "Skip" Keesal and his wife Beth, and Reverend Dr. Leon and Paula Wood were recognized as extraordinary people who represent the best of Long Beach.

"Whether it be through philanthropy, service to the community, or representing our city to the world at large each of these recipients have spent decades of their lives supporting our neighbors, leading change, and helping people who need it most," Richardson said in a statement.

To celebrate the honor, Iglesias will give a free/low-cost comedy performance on Tuesday, June 18 at 8 p.m. at the Long Beach Terrace Theater. Richardson will present the key to Iglesias during the show.

Residents aged 16 to 24 years old will be able to attend the show for free by requesting a ticket from their City Council office. Public general admission tickets are on sale on Ticketmaster for $15.

The special event will also feature a youth-focused job and resource fair that starts at 6: 30 p.m. Food trucks and bars will also be available during the event.

The Keesals and Woods will be presented their keys at the Long Beach City Council meeting on Tuesday, July 16 beginning at 5 p.m.
