Border Patrol Agent Involved In Controversial LA County Arrests Dead At 29

LONG BEACH, CA — A 29-year-old border patrol agent who was arrested last month after police say he drunkenly attacked a cop while off-duty in Long Beach has been found dead, according to authorities.

It's unclear how Agent Isaiah Anthony Hodgson died. Deputies with the Riverside County Sheriff's Office said they found the 29-year-old federal agent dead at a home in unincorporated Hemet on Friday. There were no signs of foul play, according to the Riverside Sheriff's Department.

At the time of his death, Hodgson was facing several charges after being arrested outside a Long Beach restaurant, where prosecutors say he was drunk and armed with a handgun.

When officers tried to arrest him, he attacked them, authorities said. A condition of his bail was that he could not possess any firearms and had to take at least three alcohol counseling meetings a week, prosecutors said at the time.

A month before his arrest, the 29-year-old was involved in the controversial arrest of Adrian Martinez during an immigration enforcement raid outside of a Walmart in Pico Rivera.

Prosecutors accused Martinez of attacking officers while they were trying to arrest one of his coworkers. Martinez was eventually released, but has since been charged by federal prosecutors with conspiracy to impede a federal officer.

Hodgson's family also confirmed his death through a GoFundMe started on Monday. So far, it has $9,700 out of its $11,000 goal.

"Those of you who knew him know how he brightened up any room he walked in," the fundraiser stated. "We will miss him dearly and we will cherish every single memory."
