Fire + More Shootings + Letter Grade Change Option for LBUSD

Good day, neighbors! It's me again, Sylvia, your host of the Long Beach Daily.

A house in north LB went up in flames. Also, there were three more shootings in the City. Finally, high school students have until August 15 to request that less than stellar letter grades be changed to “pass” or “no pass” notations.

Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:

  1. An early-morning fire left a North LB family homeless yesterday. The fire department responded to a blaze at a single-family home on the 100 block of 67th Street. (LB Post)
  2. Friday night and Saturday morning, there were three separate shootings. One took place in Scherer Park, which involved a minor. Later, a man was shot around Cherry Avenue and Artesia Blvd. in North LB. The final shooting took place on the 3100 block of Golden Avenue, which is near Birney Elementary. (LB Post, LBReport)
  3. LBUSD high school students or their parents may request to have grades earned during 2020/21 changed from a letter to a “Pass” or “No Pass” notation. You have until the 15th to apply. (LBUSD)
  4. On Friday, the LB Airport welcomed five U.S. Marine Corps F/A-18 aircraft. They will leave today, but you undoubtedly heard them. The military does not have to abide by the noise regulations other aircraft do. (LB Local News)
  5. The LB Police Department conducted a traffic stop and found a loaded firearm, a loaded ghost gun, and a replica handgun. (@LBPD)
