Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:
- Update: There were four, not three, shootings in the last few days. The one we missed was a woman who was struck by gunfire in the area of Walnut and 11th. It happened Friday. This makes four shootings in two days. (LBReport)
- Update: Remember the shooting at 7th Street and Dawson Avenue on Friday? Apparently, a verbal dispute escalated into gunfire. What we didn’t know was that the nearby pizza shop was struck by gunfire, too. The bullet traveled through the area where customers typically stand by the cash register. Nobody was hit because “customers were seated on the bench waiting for their food.” (LB Post)
- The LBPD interrupted an illegal street race and issued 28 citations, impounded a minivan and a Honda Civic, and arrested a driver for “illegally transporting a firearm.” (@LongBeachPD.CA)
- The LBFD was on hand for the LB Container Terminal’s fireworks show in the Port of LB. They assisted with vessel traffic. (There is no word yet on how the elegant terns reacted.) (@LBFD)
- Mayor Robert Garcia dedicated the Doris Topsy-Elvord Community Center at Houghton Park. (@LongBeachMayor)
