LONG BEACH, CA — A Grubhub driver was caught on camera eating a customer’s order while parked outside a Long Beach restaurant.

The owner of Mexihanas Hibachi Grill took to social media to share the footage and discuss his concerns about the incident.

“In this particular case, the @GRUBHUB driver took the order he was delivering to one of our valued customer(s) and proceeded to open the bag, using his teeth to do so,” Mexihanas CEO Martin Luzanilla said in an Instagram post. “He even had his own fork to savor the food.”

The video, posted Oct. 13 on Instagram, shows the driver eating from multiple containers. The restaurant repeatedly tried to reach the customer and, when it finally did make contact, told them not to eat the food and offered to remake the meal and deliver it personally, according to Luzanilla.

“While this incident was disheartening, it is important to emphasize the challenges that small business owners like ourselves often face,” Luzanilla said. “Regrettably, situations like these often go unresolved, leaving small businesses like ours at a disadvantage.”

Grubhub responded to Luzanilla in the comments of the post.

“Thank you for bringing this to our attention,” the food delivery business said. “Grubhub does not condone this type of behavior. We are taking corrective action with the driver.”

The company also provided a prepared statement to Patch.

“We have no tolerance for misconduct on our platform," a Grubhub spokesperson said in the statement.

"The vast majority of our orders are completed without incident or complaint, and when things don’t go as planned, we work hard to make things right. Upon hearing of this situation, we took immediate action and permanently ended the driver’s contract with us, removing his access to our platform. We’ve also reached out to the diner and restaurant owner to address and help resolve the situation."
