🌱 House Fire On Deborah Ave. + Girl Attacked On LB Blvd Over Jewelry

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Long Beach.

(Patch Media)

Good morning, people of Long Beach; today is International Museum Day, which has been organized by the International Council of Museums ever since 1977! It's me again, Sylvia, your host of the Long Beach Daily.

A firefighter was injured while putting out a blaze in East LB. Also, a 16-year-old was accosted by three men who wanted her jewelry. Finally, the LBPD was part of a sizable narcotics bust on East 15th Street.

Here are the top five stories today in Long Beach:

  1. A fire broke out Monday in an East LB home. Smoke was visible from the 405 and nearby Bellflower Boulevard. Burning in the 5600 block of Deborah Avenue, the LBFD arrived after 5:45 p.m. “One firefighter was transported to a local hospital to be treated for injuries after responding to the incident.” Nobody else was hurt. (LB Post)
  2. Last Thursday, a 16-year-old girl was attacked on Long Beach Boulevard, near the 6100 block and East Cambridge Street. At around 3 p.m., “a car with three men inside pulled up next to her. That's when one of the suspects got out of the car and tackled her while trying to remove some of the jewelry she was wearing.” There’s a social media video making the rounds that supposedly shows the suspect’s car; however, the LBPD has no information on it. (Fox)
  3. On Monday morning around 3 a.m., the LBPD along with other agencies served a warrant “regarding a narcotics investigation at a residence near the 2300 block of East 15th Street.” There, they found a couple of guns and “a large quantity of illegal narcotics.” A 47-year-old man was booked “for one count of possession of a controlled substance for sale, one count of prohibited possession of ammunition, one count of possession of an assault weapon, and one count of possession of a felon in possession of a firearm.” (LBPD Blotter)
  4. Starting today, the “Long Beach Convention Center will host the Cannabis Science Conference.” There will be little talk about how to convert the plant into cold, hard cash. Rather, the focus is on scientific discoveries, medical applications, and the “implementation of a Cannabis Nurse Network to help teach medical professionals how to integrate cannabis into their treatments.” (LB Business Journal)
  5. Also today, the Museum of Latin American Art encourages visitors to check out the collections by offering free admission in honor of International Museum Day. Come on by any time between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. You also have the opportunity to participate in MOLAA’s crowdfunding campaign that will bring back Free Sundays. (Random Lengths News)
