🤔 Aggressive Urban Coyotes or Regular L.A. County Wildlife? Poll!
We live with raccoons and opossums. Do coyotes fall into the same category? They don’t need open space, have no problems building dens close to humans, and are becoming more and more visible on our neighborhood streets. What do you think? So far, 61.9% think we need to learn to live with them, 34.9% want them gone, and 3.2% don’t care one way or the other.
📰 Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:
1) A shoutout to Millikan High School teacher Lee Underwood! The LBUSD announced on Friday that he is the Teacher of the Year. Underwood teaches AP English Literature and has been with the district since 2006. Congratulations! (LB Schools)
2) The LBPD arrested three juveniles on Saturday evening in connection with a shots-fired report in the 900 block of Via Carmelitos. The three boys, ranging in age from 15 to 16 years, initiated an unsuccessful vehicle escape. In addition to bringing in the boys, the police also took two guns off the streets. Another no-hit shooter was arrested in the 1800 block of Palmer Court early Sunday morning. In this case, the suspect is “a male adult who was arrested for a prohibited person in possession of ammunition, possession of a controlled substance, and an outstanding warrant.” (LBPD)
3) We learned on Monday that the Long Beach City College is working with 11 students as part of a partnership pilot program between the school and Raise The Barr. The program will “coordinate care and housing for students who are low-income single parents.” The pilot program runs through July 2023. (Press-Telegram)
4) On Saturday was the Plane Pull. The LBPD sent a team that “managed to pull a 125,000-pound plane 10 feet in just under 7 seconds.” This fundraiser collected more than “$240K to support athletes.” (Long Beach PD)
5) Mark our calendars! The Panndora’s Box annual theater festival runs this year from October 7 to 9. Head to the Garage Theatre to see the works of the newest LB playwrights. This year’s lineup begins with Mob Moll by Rachael Powles and continues with Have To Believe We Are Magic by Sara Guerrero, Olive Pits And Other Survivors by Tracy Chutorian Semler, All The Oxytocin In Your Fingertips by Cary J. Simowitz, and Golden Gate by Lindsey Kirchoff. (Panndora Productions)
