🤔 Aggressive Urban Coyotes or Regular L.A. County Wildlife? Poll!

We live with raccoons and opossums. Do coyotes fall into the same category? They don’t need open space, have no problems building dens close to humans, and are becoming more and more visible on our neighborhood streets. What do you think? So far, 59.1% think we need to learn to live with them, 37.9% want them gone, and 3% don’t care one way or the other.

📰 Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:

1) What was happening on the 2400 block of Long Beach Boulevard Monday afternoon? At around 3:21 p.m., reports of a suspicious device came in. “An officer at the scene said the device was found in a trailer on 25th Street east of Long Beach Boulevard.” The PD evacuated the area and closed Long Beach Boulevard between Willow and Hill. By 7:10 p.m., the bomb squad had done its work, and the PD reopened the streets. (LBPD, Long Beach Post)

2) Next Tuesday, the Long Beach City Council will have the opportunity to vote on the future of the Community Hospital at 1720 Termino Avenue. Seismic retrofits made the lease signed by John Molina and Molina, Wu, Network, LLC unprofitable. Now, the City could transfer the title to the venue to the company for $0, share closing costs, and pay seismic retrofit costs. (Press-Telegram)

3) For three decades, Long Beach has burned its trash on Terminal Island, “using the heat to generate electricity.” We learned on Tuesday that Governor Gavin Newsom signed AB 1857, which stops the practice. The bill’s author pointed to the practice as “environmental racism” while the City disagreed that the facility “emits toxic gas or that the ash is hazardous waste.” According to the City’s Department of Energy Resources, “we’re going to need significant capital.” (Press-Telegram)

4) The Port of New York and New Jersey has taken away significant cargo volume from container ships that no longer come to Long Beach. There’s a move to avoid the West Coast because “logistics managers (are) worried about a labor strike or lockout,” we learned on Monday. (Axios)

5) Mark your calendars! Grocery Outlet Bargain Market will celebrate the grand opening of its fourth property Thursday morning starting at 8 a.m. Located at 300 East Willow Street, “the first 100 adult customers will receive a mystery gift card worth anywhere between $5 and $500.” (LB Business Journal)
