Here are the top stories today in Long Beach:
- If youβre looking to get in the mood for Halloween, explore the Cityβs (allegedly) haunted places. There are Station 12 in North LB, the Sunnyside Cemetery, the Breakers building downtown, Igorβs Alley in Los Cerritos, the Queen Mary, which is haunted by more than just poor financial decisions, and DeForest Park. (The HiLo)
- On Friday, the Property Brothers, aka Jonathan and Drew Scott from HGTV fame, visited the 14th Street and Pine Avenue neighborhood. The visit is due to a partnership with Habitat for Humanity βto promote housing security in Long Beach.β These homes will have a price point that makes them affordable for families who make up to $96,000 a year, which is considered a moderate income in the county. (LB Post)
- LB is getting an IKEA β sort of. The company is taking over the former Red Ball Fun Zone at the Towne Center and expects to open by spring of next year. This is not a full-size IKEA store. In fact, you wonβt even be taking products home. Instead, you have the opportunity to work with a design specialist to work out your furniture and accessory needs and then place an order for the products. βWeβve seen that customers are still eager for in-person experiences. Thatβs why weβre investing heavily in brick and mortar locations, and newer, more accessible store formats,β the companyβs CEO noted. (LB Business Journal)
- The City has released an official statement Friday regarding the βFDA emergency use authorization of Pfizer vaccine for children ages 5 to 11.β It states that the next step will be a November 2 or 3 CDC ACIP review, which then makes recommendations. After that, a two-dose vaccination regimen will be available for the kids. (City of LB)
- On Thursday evening, there was a drive-by shooting in the 1100 block of East 59th Street. The shots missed an adult woman. An adult male approached her in a gray vehicle and opened fire. (LBReport)
