Here are the top five stories today in Long Beach:

  1. The Long Beach City College received a threatening message on Monday; however, the school doesn’t believe that it’s credible. The LBPD was alerted and consulted with the school. “All LBCC operations, including classes, will continue as usual. LBPD will provide additional patrols on campus while this situation is in effect.” (LB Local News)
  2. We learned on Monday that Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia supports the efforts of a local Starbucks store to unionize. Located at 7th and Redondo, the workers told the company’s CEO that “we show up every day for this company and give our best despite the conditions we have been put under.” The company disagrees and says that “they believe they can work together without a union.” Nationwide, 26 Starbucks have unionized. (ABC)
  3. Mark your calendar! On Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., there will be a maritime industry job fair at the LBCC Pacific Coast Campus. “The event, aimed at ages 17-25, will feature speakers from the maritime field and a competition for young people to show what they know about the maritime industry. Two prizes of $250 will be awarded.” (Press-Telegram)
  4. Another Saturday event that’s coming up is the Annual Classic Car Show in Seal Beach. More than 500 stunningly beautiful classic cars will take up the sides of Main Street. For you, this means that Main Street is closed between PCH and Ocean. Getting around on Electric, Central, and Ocean will also be problematic around 8th and 10th streets. (Sun News)
  5. And, while we’re at it, there’s also the Rainbow Connections Youth PRIDE Event at First Congregational Church of Long Beach. There’ll be “music, a DJ and dancing, LGBTQ+ resources including the wonderful organization Free Mom Hugs, a gender-affirming clothing “store” (also free!), a photo booth, a reading corner, and FREE FOOD.” Head on over between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. (DTLB Alliance)
