LBUSD Safety Officer Shoots At Burglary Suspect At High School
Long Beach police are investigating a shooting that took place in the middle of the night at Millikan High School.

LONG BEACH, CA — A Long Beach Unified School District school safety officer was placed on administrative leave after firing at a burglary suspect on the Millikan High School campus in the middle of the night, officials said.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, police were dispatched to assist LBUSD safety personnel with a possible burglary suspect on campus at Millikan High School at about 2:44 a.m. When officers arrived, they learned a school safety officer discharged their weapon.
A SWAT team was activated and conducted a search of the campus for the suspect, but were unable to locate them.

As a precaution LBPD and LBUSD officers will have an increased presence near the school for the remainder of the day. There is no current danger to public safety, police said.
According to Southern California News Group reporter Nathan Percy, the school safety officer was placed on administrative leave pending further investigation of the incident.
