LONG BEACH, CA — The Long Beach Lifeguards temporarily closed beaches in the city on Wednesday due to lightning storms.
Officials said the beaches were closed starting at about 11:30 a.m. and it was unknown how long they would stay closed. Lifeguards will reopen the beaches when the warning is clear and it is safe for residents.
The National Weather Service did not forecast any additional thunderstorms throughout the day, but rain is expected to persist through the night. A special weather statement was issued for Pasadena and Long Beach Wednesday morning warning residents about 40 mph winds and pea-sized hail.
