💧 Water Crisis Poll! 💧
Residents are limited to watering their landscapes two days per week, before 9 a.m. or after 4 p.m. What else should the City do to deal with the water crisis? Please let me know your thoughts! So far, 25% want to mandate drought-resistant landscaping, 33.3% want to recycle wastewater for irrigation, another 25% want to build a desalination plant at the coast, and 16.7% don’t believe residential water use contributes to the water crisis.
Here are the top five stories in Long Beach today:
- On Tuesday evening, the LBPD was called to the “2200 block of Locust Avenue regarding an assault with a deadly weapon.” A female adult sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. She stated that she was in her home when “an unknown suspect discharged a firearm towards the victim from an unknown direction.” (LBPD)
- Follow-up on Freeway Shooting: Earlier, we learned that a woman died on the 710 Freeway. On Tuesday, we received information that she was identified as a 35-year-old L.A. resident and mother of four. “Witnesses from nearby businesses who saw the aftermath say the car was riddled with bullet holes and did not appear to have suffered much damage during the crash.” (LB Post)
- Have you heard officials talk about the “coastal gateway?” It has to do with helping to “revitalize the city’s entrance from the east on E. Pacific Coast Highway.” Mayor Robert Garcia announced Tuesday that there are four projects now targeting this Southeast LB area. “Three of the projects are mixed-use developments that will bring 1,353 residential units and over 12,000 square feet of commercial space to the area, with the fourth to add 5,200 square feet of office space alongside an almost 10,000-square-foot warehouse.” (LB Business Journal)
- On Saturday, the National Council of Negro Women's 36th Annual Spring Celebration included appreciation for the LBFD for support of its “Annual Christmas Food & Toy Drive through the LBFD Spark of Love Program.” Firefighter Will Nash accepted the award on behalf of the department. (LBFD)
- Mark your calendars! Meals on Wheels LB is hosting a car show fundraiser on July 16. “Over the past 24 months, demand has doubled for our free, donor-subsidized meal delivery program that serves our extremely low-income homebound community,” the executive director explains. Add increases in gas and food prices, and you know they need our help. Come to the LBPOA Park behind the Towne Center’s Lowe’s between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. (Press-Telegram)
