LONG BEACH, CA — Long Beach's free Summer Kickoff Concert is back with a variety of musical genres for attendees to enjoy Friday evening.

The event takes place each year to bring the Long Beach community together to celebrate arts, culture and music just ahead of the summer season, Mayor Rex Richardson said in a statement earlier this month.

This year's concert will feature the Pop Vinyl Band, a Southern California group that has five lead singers and DJ services. The group will be performing songs from multiple genres, including pop, funk, soul, rock and Top 40 hits, according to city officials.

"With summer right around the corner, we are thrilled to invite the community to join us in welcoming the warm summer months with this free, family-friendly evening of great music," Richardson said.

The Summer Kickoff Concert will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at El Dorado Park West. City officials said in a statement that anyone planning to attend the concert should consider bringing blankets, chairs and picnic dinners.

Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine Director Brent Dennis said the event is a can't-miss summer tradition that "begins a season of music in our parks throughout the city."

The Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine will be hosting more free and family-friendly events such as movies in the park and a band concert series. Dates have yet to be announced for the additional events.

El Dorado Park West is located at 2800 Studebaker Rd.
