Long Beach DUI Checkpoint Nabs 2 for Suspected Drunken Driving
Ten other drivers were cited for unlicensed driving or driving with a suspended or revoked license.

Two people were arrested in suspicion of drunken driving and 15 others were cited for various traffic-related violations at DUI checkpoint this weekend in Long Beach, police said.
The check was at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Santiago Avenue, between the hours of 7 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday.
Police say checkpoints have been shown to lower DUI deaths and injuries. Three field sobriety tests were performed at the checkpoint and two drivers failed the test, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

More than 620 vehicles pass through the checkpoint during the eight-hour period. Police also cited 10 drivers for driving without a license or with a suspended or revoked license. Five people were also citing for unsafe driving.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI enforcement strategies, while also yielding considerable cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent.
