Long Beach Man Arrested in Shooting Death of Man
The investigation was ongoing to determine the motive for the attack, but detectives do not believe the suspect and victim knew each other.

LONG BEACH, CA — Homicide detectives announced Friday they have arrested a suspect in the shooting death of a 38-year-old man in Long Beach.
Edgar Melgar Salazar was arrested Thursday at a Long Beach residence. The 28-year-old man was booked into the Long Beach City Jail for suspicion of murder, according to Long Beach police. Bail was set at $3 million.
Officers responded about 9 p.m. Feb. 18 to reports of a shooting in the 1400 block of Locust Avenue, police said. They saw evidence that a shooting had occurred and learned the victim was taken to a hospital by a private party.

Durell Shell of Long Beach died at the hospital, police said.
