Long Beach USD Goes Green: Report
The Long Beach Board of Education unanimously voted to adopt the Green School Energy and Sustainability Board policy.
LONG BEACH, CA — Long Beach Unified School District's Board of Education unanimously voted to commit to using 100% clean and renewable energy in its schools Wednesday, as reported by the Long Beach Post.
The Long Beach Green Schools Campaign, a group of LBUSD students dedicated to helping alleviate the effects of impending climate change, started working toward this goal two years ago on Aug. 11. The group celebrated as the Board approved the transition off of fossil fuels by 2045.
Just a day after the city of Long Beach voted to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions as well, Board Policy 3510.1 will also put focus on the district's long-term sustainability.

The policy includes a timeline to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and a transition to her-emissions vehicles and machinery as quickly as possible. It will also have LBUSD maximize the efficiency of current buildings to reduce energy and water consumption.
To ensure transparency and track the district's progress, LBUSD will also launch a Climate Crisis and Sustainability Taskforce to monitor progress and set yearly goals.
