Long Beach's Incoming Pro Baseball Team Needs Help Picking A New Name
"This is your chance to leave a legacy in Long Beach sports history," the Long Beach Baseball club said on its website.

LONG BEACH, CA — Long Beach's incoming professional baseball team needs help choosing a new name, and it's asking community members to submit their ideas.
From now until Sept. 12, community members will have the opportunity to submit what they think the new pro team, temporarily dubbed the Long Beach Baseball Club, should be called.
"We’ve spent months doing market research and generating name options that reflect the Long Beach community and its values," the Long Beach Baseball Club said on its website. "Now, we want your input. This is your chance to leave a legacy in Long Beach sports history."

Ideas must be submitted via a short video that explains why the name would be fitting for a Long Beach team. A panel of judges will then select up to three finalists, followed by a second round of judging that will determine a winner. There are no limits to the number of entries a person can submit, but they must be 18 years or older and a resident of California, according to team officials.
The plan to bring a professional baseball team to Long Beach was announced earlier this summer by city officials.

The Long Beach Baseball Club would become the 13th team in the Pioneer League, which currently includes the Oakland Ballers, the Ogden Raptors (Utah) and the Boise Hawks (Idaho).
"This effort has a potential to invigorate local pride amongst our residents, foster community engagement, stimulate economic activity for the greater Long Beach community," Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson said during a City Council meeting back in July.
