Man Arrested After Stabbing Teen In Long Beach: Police

The stabbing happened Sunday afternoon near Lincoln Park in Downtown Long Beach, according to authorities.

LONG BEACH, CA — A man has been arrested after stabbing a teenage boy near Lincoln Park in Downtown Long Beach on Sunday, according to authorities.

Police say the 16-year-old was in the 100 block of Pacific Avenue around 5:42 p.m. when he was stabbed by a man multiple times in the upper body. The teen was taken to a local hospital by Long Beach Fire Department personnel for treatment, according to police, who said his wounds were not considered life-threatening.

The suspect tried to run away from the scene, but officers quickly located him, police said. While arresting him, he attacked an officer, police added. However, the officer was not injured.

The suspect was identified by police as 34-year-old Long Beach resident Christopher Ivan Gonzalez. He was taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder, resisting arrest and resisting arrest by means of force or violence and disorderly conduct, police said. His bail was set at $1 million.

It's unclear what prompted the stabbing attack or whether the teen and Gonzalez knew each other. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
