Man Barricades Himself Inside Long Beach Motel Room

A SWAT team was able to take him into custody.

A man was taken into custody by a SWAT team today after he barricaded himself inside a motel room in Long Beach.

Officers were dispatched about 10:40 a.m. to the 600 block of West Pacific Coast Highway after getting a call from the suspect, who said he was being held against his will by someone with a gun, said Long Beach police Sgt. Brad Johnson.

Witnesses at the scene said the standoff took place at the Pool Side Motel at 611 W. Pacific Coast Highway.

The man subsequently said he was alone and that he was the one armed with a weapon, but he refused to surrender so a SWAT team was called in, Johnson said.

Officers went in and took the suspect into custody about 3:40 p.m., the sergeant said.

The man’s name was not made available. He had an outstanding no-bail warrant and would be booked on suspicion of resisting arrest/disobeying police commands and making a false police report.
