Man Sleeping On Sidewalk Fatally Struck By Semi-Truck In Long Beach: Police
The crash happened Wednesday night in the area of Oregon Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway, according to police.
LONG BEACH, CA — Detectives are investigating a crash that left a man dead in Long Beach Wednesday night, according to police.
Police say the man was sleeping on the sidewalk in the area of Oregon Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway around 8:10 p.m. when the back wheels of a semi-truck turning southbound in the area rolled onto him.
The driver of the semi-truck then continued going southbound on Oregon Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Officers were called to the scene after getting a report of a "person down," police said. When they got to the scene, they realized the man had been struck by a vehicle, according to the LBPD.
The man was taken by Long Beach Fire Department personnel to a local hospital where, despite efforts to save his life, he died, according to police.

The man's identity was not immediately released as the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office works to notify his family of his death.
It's unclear whether the semi-truck driver was aware they struck the man. At this time, investigators believe speed, distracted driving or impaired driving were not factors in the crash.
