As of right now, 40.2% say the kids should just go back to school, 24.8% say that kids should wear masks, 31.6% want there to be distancing and sanitizing, while 3.4% prefer distance learning for the kids.

  1. The Market Street project is going forward, and the Public Works Department warns of traffic delays between Cherry Avenue and Long Beach Boulevard. “New updates include landscaping, sidewalk repairs, new curb ramps, bulb-outs and more!” Construction begins this month! (Public Works)
  2. The LBPD East Division Directed Enforcement Team announced on Tuesday that it served search warrants on homes “in the 3300 block of San Anseline Avenue and the 3100 block of Bellflower Boulevard.” There, they “recovered narcotics, paraphernalia and nine firearms ... (and) several ounces of narcotics, including fentanyl.” A 65-year-old man was arrested. (LBPD)
  3. Monkeypox Update: As of Wednesday, Long Beach reported 22 cases of probable and confirmed cases of monkeypox, which led to the declaration of a local emergency. We learned on Tuesday that the city “announced its first case of monkeypox in a child.” The youngster “was symptomatic but has already recovered.” (City of LB, Fox, ABC)
  4. Health Care Minimum Wage Update: The Long Beach City Council voted Tuesday unanimously to approve the ordinance. “Thank you to SEIU-United Healthcare Workers West for initiating and submitting the petition,” said Council Member Suely Saro. This means that there is one less measure on November’s ballot. (Suely Saro)
  5. Mark your calendars! Belmont Shore’s McCarty’s Fine Jewelry is hosting a fundraiser for the WomenShelter on August 7. It will take the form of a free concert at Marine Stadium Park that will feature The Fabba Show, an Abba tribute band. Running from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., you can buy raffle tickets that support the charity. (McCarty’s Fine Jewelry)
