There is a fundraiser to cover the medical bills of the man found in the street. Also, there were three – count ‘em! – shootings in the last couple of days. Finally, the LBPD has a new way to deal with violent individuals.

Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:

  1. Update: The family of the 61-year-old man, who was found unresponsive, is holding a fundraiser for his ongoing medical care. It will be today at 11 a.m. at Avenue 3 Pizza, 2226 Palo Verde Ave. The fundraiser continues until closing time. You may remember this case because the LBPD has been unable to determine if a crime was committed. (LB Post)
  2. There were three more shootings. The latest shooting took place early Saturday morning. It happened a few blocks north of the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library, on Atlantic Avenue and 61st Street. An adult male was shot and wounded. Late Friday evening, there was a shooting at East 7th Street and Dawson Avenue; an adult man was wounded. Finally, in the wee hours of Friday, the LBPD received reports of shots fired at the intersection of 65th Street and California. Officers found bullet casings but no victim. (LBReport)
  3. When first responders now receive calls about “agitated, combative or violent individuals,” they’ll implement the new Integrated Medical Intervention Response program. The goal is to “reduce use of force incidents.” (City of LB)
  4. Carnival's Panorama sailed yesterday morning from the Port of Long Beach. Headed to the Mexican Riviera, LB businesses, such as the Under the Sun Restaurant, need the cruise industry tourism dollar for survival. (ABC 7)
  5. The Permit Center, located on the 2nd Floor of City Hall, reopens on Monday for “in-person services for all development projects.” (LBDS)
