- Update: The 18-year-old mother who was shot by a Millikan HS resources officer has died, and her organs were donated. Her brother states he was told by her surgeons that “the bullet used was a hollow-type point bullet.” The PD and D.A. are still investigating. However, it has come to the surface that the shooter “served short stints as a police officer for at least two different agencies.” (ABC 7, LB Post)
- The statewide eviction moratorium ended Sept. 30. If you are a renter who applied for relief under the program, you are protected from eviction through March 2022. However, the disbursement process is slow. Council member Rex Richardson wants to streamline the process. “There are nearly 16,000 renters behind on rent, and at the city’s current pace it wouldn’t use all of its rent relief funding until August 2022.” (LB Post)
- SnugTop has been the go-to shop for all types of aftermarket fiberglass truck caps. These camper shells are popular in the Southland. However, SnugTop is shutting down its LB operation and relocate it to Mexicali, which affects 123 employees. The doors close on October 15. (LB Business Journal)
- Did you know that LB has signed a lease with Amplify Energy (yes, that one) that “could extend the pipeline’s life through 2040?” Offshore drillers have been leasing the Beta Pump Station area since 1979. “The pipeline will be 60 years old by the end of the lease in 2040.” (Capital and Main)
- Remember the $3.7 million infrastructure improvement project along Santa Fe Avenue in West Long Beach? You can weigh in virtually tonight, at 6 p.m. This is an excellent opportunity to take about bike routes, traffic cameras, and the pedestrians' needs. (LB Post)
