Here are the top stories today in Long Beach:

  1. Latest Stink Update: The Dominguez Channel is still creating problems with the stench emanating from it. As officials are running out of ideas, they suggest that affected residents “run their heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems or portable high-efficiency portable air filter overnight, while keeping their doors and windows closed.” Deodorizer is being sprayed as promised. (ABC)
  2. There was a drive-by shooting in the 500 block of East 1st Street. An adult male was on foot when a person in a vehicle fired several shots. The person was not hit, but buildings were stuck by gunfire. (LBReport)
  3. There’s a labor dispute brewing in the LBUSD. A “disagreement over raises” is putting the school district and the union representing classified workers at odds. These employees drive the school buses, work in the cafeterias, provide maintenance, and are aides. The union wants a 7% pay boost. The district does not. (LB Post)
  4. The MSC DANIT was in the LB Port on Saturday. This is when U.S. Coast Guard and National Transportation Safety Board marine casualty investigators showed up and went onboard. It turns out that the Mediterranean Shipping Company’s vessel was “involved in an anchor-dragging incident on Jan. 25, 2021.” There is suspicion that the dragging could have dislodged the oil pipeline that led to the Huntington Beach oil spill. (Patch)
  5. Did you know that LB has its own pudding spot? It’s true! Extraordinary Banana Pudding at 1208 Long Beach Boulevard serves up 25 flavors. But it doesn’t just come in little cups. Get pudding in pies, cakes, cupcakes, popsicles, sandwiches, even tacos. And, yes, there are sugar-free, vegan and gluten-free puddings. (The HiLo)
