Motorcyclist Killed on Artesia Freeway, Thrown Into Los Angeles River

The Los Angeles resident crashed after he struck the guard on the road.

A 35-year-old motorcyclist was killed as he crashed on the Artesia (91) Freeway and was thrown into the Los Angeles River in Long Beach, the California Highway Patrol said Sunday.

Los Angeles resident Damien Phillips was riding his 2006 Yamaha RI west on the 91 at an unknown speed near Atlantic Avenue when he struck the guard on the north side of the road way, the CHP said.

Phillips was ejected from the bike and landed below in the riverbed. Long Beach fire paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene at 11:05 p.m. Saturday The CHP was notified of the crash at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, he said.
