Bicyclist Killed In Traffic Collision Near CSULB

A traffic crash Early Friday morning resulted in the death of a bicyclist, police said.

LONG BEACH, CA — A bicyclist was killed in a crash with a car in front of California State University, Long Beach early Friday morning.

At about 5:05 a.m. police responded to the intersection of 7th Street and Campus Drive after reports of a traffic collision. When police arrived, they discovered a man lying unconscious on the sidewalk on 7th Street.

Paramedics responded and determined the man dead at the scene, the Long Beach Police Department said. The man's identity was withheld pending notification of his next of kin.

According to preliminary investigation results, the bicyclist was traveling eastbound on 7th Street when a car came from behind and struck him.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.At this time, police said speed, distracted driving or impaired driving were not considered factors in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
