Multiple Pets Killed In Long Beach Apartment Blaze: Fire Department

LONG BEACH, CA — Multiple pets died Tuesday morning in an apartment fire in Long Beach, according to authorities.
The fire broke out around 1 a.m. in the 2300 block of East 17th Street, authorities said.
When crews arrived, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors of the fire were actively in flames, Long Beach Fire Department said in a post on social media. Fire crews rescued over a dozen pets, including cats, dogs and birds, authorities said. But two cats and one dog died in the blaze, the fire department said.

The Red Cross also responded to the area to assist eight people and other pets who were displaced in the fire, authorities said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to the department.
