Murder Suspects Shoot At Deputies During Pursuit In Compton: Sheriff

The suspects are accused of fatally shooting a man in the 1300 block of S. Long Beach Boulevard on Tuesday night.

COMPTON, CA — Three people have been arrested after authorities say they killed a man at a store and then shot at deputies during a pursuit in Compton earlier this week.

Deputies say the suspects, armed with assault rifles, shot at several people at a business in the 1300 block of S. Long Beach Boulevard on Tuesday around 10:40 p.m.

The gunfire struck one man, who died after being taken to a local hospital, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Nearby deputies patrolling the area responded to the scene, where they witnessed two suspects leaving the business while a third served as the getaway driver, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department.

The suspects led deputies on a chase, where at some point they fired at the deputies, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department. The gunfire hit a patrol car, but no deputies were injured, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department.

The chase led authorities through several Compton streets, onto a freeway and then back to the streets, authorities said.

The chase eventually ended when the suspects bailed out of their vehicle at the intersection of 139th Street and Zamora Avenue, according to authorities.

Law enforcement personnel established a perimeter around the area, and the suspects were taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting and pursuit, authorities said.

Three assault rifles were found in the vehicle being driven by the suspects, police said.
