Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:
- Shout-out to the Drug Investigations Sections! They took 200 pounds of illegal narcotics off the streets. A special shout-out to the East Division! (@LBPD)
- The latest shooting took place “less than half a mile north of LBPD HQ in the 600 block of Magnolia Ave.” An adult male interacted with a male juvenile. When the latter walked away, gunshots rang out. Officers found casings and noticed that a parked car was hit. The LBPD suspects gang activity. (LBReport)
- In a semi-related piece of news, the LBPD is hosting a gun buy-back event on October 2. “At this event, community members can turn in unwanted firearms to receive gift cards.” Taking place at Veterans Park, you can get rid of non-functioning guns, guns, rifles, shotguns, and assault rifles. (LBPD)
- The “largest LGBTQ car show on the West Coast” took place on Sunday at the Marina Pacifica parking lot. About 100 vintage cars attracted plenty of visitors. The Great Autos Car Club arranged the rides by color. (KTLA 5)
- The habitat of mountain yellow-legged frogs has shrunk due to wildfires and non-native trout. Populations in the wild are left at only ten sites. The Aquarium of the Pacific is offering a last line of protection from extinction by recreating a larger habitat for the animals. (LB Post)
