Find out everything new in town with the Long Beach Daily.

(Patch Media)

Good morning, people of Long Beach! It's me again, Sylvia, your host of the Long Beach Daily.

Kaiser isn’t going on strike; hallelujah! Also, Nextdoor was lighting up with questions about a police presence on Woodruff and Los Coyotes. Finally, an abandoned homeless encampment burned.

GasBuddy can’t help you if you want to buy gas under $4 per gallon unleaded. The cheapest gas currently for sale is the ARCO at 3201 East 7th Street with $4.05.

First, today's weather:

Plenty of sun. High: 84 Low: 57.

Here are the top stories today in Long Beach:

  1. Kaiser Permanente will not see picket lines on Monday. "Kaiser and the Alliance of Health Care Unions agreed on a four-year contract covering nearly 50,000 health care employees in 22 local unions" on Saturday. The agreement kicks the can down the road until 2025. (LB Post)
  2. On Friday, an officer shot a man sitting in his car on the Los Coyotes Diagonal and Woodruff Avenue. It happened around 8:20 a.m. when the LBPD approached the vehicle, and the suspect pointed a gun at officers. It turned out that the 40-year-old Palmdale resident had a CO2-powered BB gun. (LBPD)
  3. While the cops were busy there, the LBFD headed to 49th and Del Amo Boulevard. There, an abandoned homeless encampment caught on fire. Putting out the fire required entrance into the tunnel below the railroad tracks. The fire is now under investigation. (LBFD)
  4. Caltrans closed the Vincent Thomas Bridge in both directions on Saturday. A 60-year-old man threatened suicide. According to the California Highway Patrol, they learned about the presence of the man around 6:30 a.m. on Friday. By Saturday morning, officials were still not able to talk him down. (My News LA)
  5. Stink Update: The lawsuits are gaining traction. As of Friday, there were 360 people named as plaintiffs. On the defendants’ side, there were Art Naturals, Prologis, and Day to Day Imports. The plaintiffs ask defendants to “pay for a variety of costs, including relocation, future and past medical expenses as a result of the noxious gas, loss of wages and property damages.” You may remember that there are already eight plaintiffs who filed suit against Art Naturals and Prologis in October.
