Nonprofit Teaching Long Beach Kindergarteners To Ride A Bike
All Kids Bike is donating bikes, helmets and instruction tools to an elementary school in Long Beach for a learn-to-ride program.
LONG BEACH, CA — Kids at Thomas Edison Elementary School in Long Beach will get the chance to learn how to ride a bike during their physical education classes thanks to a donation from the HDR Foundation.
All Kids Bike, a nonprofit with a mission to give children the opportunity to ride a bike in school, is bringing the Kindergarten PE Learn-to-Ride program to the school. As part of the program, Thomas Edison Elementary will be given:
- 24 Strider balance-to-pedal bikes;
- pedal conversion kits;
- student helmets;
- a teacher instruction bike;
- and rolling storage racks.
"By teaching kids to ride a bike in school, All Kids Bike gives thousands of children each year the opportunity to learn the life-changing skill of riding a bike," a spokesperson for All Kids Bike said.

The program's introduction to the Long Beach school is thanks to a $333,000 donation from the HDR Foundation, an employee-owned professional services firm. The foundation focuses on education, healthy communities and environmental stewardship.
The All Kids Bike Kindergarten PE Learn-to-Ride Program launched in 2018 and has activated in more than 1,500 schools across the United States. The program includes everything needed to teach students at school for 7-10 years including teacher training and certification.
