Officer-Involved Shooting Reported along Border with Signal Hill

Not many details are available, but no officers were hurt and sheriff's homicide detectives are on scene.

A woman was wounded today in an officer-involved shooting involving a Signal Hill police officer near the border with Long Beach, authorities said.

According to the sheriff’s department, Signal Hill police received a call about a woman with a handgun walking in the 1800 block of Cherry Avenue about 8:15 a.m.

Signal Hill officers responded to the scene and a confrontation with the armed woman resulted in an OIS, according to sheriff’s officials, who did not release any details regarding the unidentified suspect or what triggered the gunfire.

Deputy Kevin Moody did say a gun was recovered at the scene.

The woman was transported to a local hospital for treatment, but a condition report was unavailable.

Sheriff’s homicide detectives were assisting Signal Hill police in the investigation.
