Officer-Involved Shooting Reported in Long Beach

An officer fires his gun after a suspect wields a knife in an incident Saturday night, police say.

A suspect who allegedly wielded a knife at a Long Beach police officer was not hurt when the officer opened fire, a police spokeswoman said Sunday   

At approximately 11:05 p.m., Saturday, "we responded to the 1100 block of Walnut Avenue regarding a person with a knife call," said Long Beach police spokeswoman Nancy Pratt.

"Moments later, an OIS (officer-involved shooting) occurred, however, the suspect was not struck by gunfire," Pratt said.

The suspect was taken into custody, she said. The investigation remains ongoing, Pratt said.
